Here’s a “sneak peek” of a few featured performances by local and regional arts organizations that are already confirmed for SaratogaArtsFest 2010.

Music

Albany Symphony Orchestra – Brass Quintet
The Albany Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet will perform a varied program ranging from Renaissance and Baroque selections to Big Band jazz and Broadway show tunes. Sure to please listeners of all ages!

Caffè Lena
Caffè Lena’s programs are well-known for wide appeal and artistic excellence. Tap and clap to two shows with nationally touring acoustic bands or solo artists. One night will feature a jaunty songwriter teamed with an eclectic R&B/rockabilly quartet, while the other evening showcases a hammered dulcimer virtuoso accompanied by fiddle and bass.

Empire State Youth Orchestra
The Empire State Youth Orchestra has joined ArtsFest as a Partner. ESYO is an "umbrella" organization of nine ensembles comprising 300+ young musicians, as well as an instrument training program for low-income, inner-city students. ESYO attracts students from over 75 public and private schools throughout eastern NY, western MA, and southern VT, ranging from 4th-12th grades.  ESYO's Empire Jazz Ensemble 2 will perform on the Center Stage during ArtsFest weekend.

Lake George Opera at Saratoga
Artists from Lake George Opera at Saratoga’s 2010 Summer Season will perform arias from favorite operas. Hear some of the best rising young talent in the country sing some of the most beautiful music ever written.

Saratoga Chamber Players
Enjoy chamber music by outstanding musicians under the direction of Jill Levy, concertmaster of the Albany Symphony Orchestra. Works will include pieces by Stravinsky, Borodin, and Glazunov.

Dance

Dance performances will be announced in March, 2010.

Visual Art

SaratogaArtsFest Paint Out
Watch in awe as outdoor artists capture Saratoga Springs on canvas as they paint scenic streetscapes and park vignettes. Always popular, you can observe for a minute or an hour or more.

Film/Literary Art

Alix Ohlin
Author Alix Ohlin will be featured as part of our literary arts offerings. Ms. Ohlin has been selected for both Best New American Voices 2004 and Best American Short Stories 2005. She has received awards and fellowships from The Atlantic Monthly, the MacDowell Colony, The Kenyon Review's Writers Workshop, the Sewanee Writers' Conference, and Yaddo. Alix Ohlin is the author of the novel The Missing Person and the short story collection Babylon and Other Stories, which  appeared in August 2006 to rave reviews, most notably from The New York Times.

Theatre

Empire State College Foundation of SUNY – Flashback
Flashback explores the psychic repercussions of war from the point of view of six women who were married to Vietnam veterans and lost their husbands to suicide. Their words, taken directly from oral testimony, provide the backdrop to a confrontation between one such widow and an old war-buddy of her husband’s. Visceral and deeply moving, Flashback is both a reminder of war’s collateral damage and a cautionary tale.

Home Made Theater – Runyonesque
Relive the spirit of Saratoga’s gambling and horse-racing heyday at this colorful theatrical performance. As you step back in time, you’ll be entertained by as unique a group of mugs, lugs, and swell tomatoes that ever caroused on the streets of our fair city. Runyonesque is based on the writings of Damon Runyon, whose work inspired the musical Guys and Dolls.

Hubbard Hall
The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall (TCHH) is acclaimed on Regional Top 10 Lists of Metroland, the Albany Times-Union, Berkshire Eagle and The Record in Troy. This highly acclaimed company will present scenes from Another Antigone by A.R. Gurney on Saturday during ArtsFest.

Lake George Opera at Saratoga
Artists from Lake George Opera at Saratoga’s 2010 Summer Season will perform arias from favorite operas. Hear some of the best rising young talent in the country sing some of the most beautiful music ever written.
